Commercial and Residential artist Rachel de Roeper is rapidly carving a name for herself on the international art stage with her stunning abstracts produced on transparent media. Her work has been exhibited as far afield as New Zealand, the USA, and Europe, where she has established a strong following amongst collectors with an eye for innovation and aesthetics. Currently, she has shows running in Copenhagen and the UK.
"I have always loved the Art and Design world and hence followed by heart," says Rachel. "I specialise in working with transparent media for both back-lit installations and surface adornment. However, I do find working with the more traditional surface media such as canvas and paper equally enjoyable".
Rachel developed her successful technique while studying for her degree in Surface Decoration Design at both Norwich School of Art and Design and De Montford University, Leicester, where she qualified with a BA (Hons) in 1993.
"To gain my degree, I was asked to 'create a unique technique of producing decorative imagery'. Working with transparent media such as acrylic sheet, acetate and glass, I developed a unique mixed media formula, applied to the reverse side of the transparent media. The formula creates intriguing decorative imagery with rich depth of colour, texture and lustre".
By contrast, Rachel's technique with traditional media lends itself to a romantic softness, so reminiscent of the early Impressionists that her work has been described as "Turneresque". She gains her inspiration from geographic and natural form, in abstract and semi-abstract.
Rachel is much in demand for commissions, combining her own style of presentation with the desires of her clients.
